How Trans High School Students Work at Gender Nonconformity

Based on a year-long ethnographic study conducted in a Canadian high school, Slovin presents a poignant critique of educational policies aimed at supporting trans and gender-nonconforming youth in school, policies that through their narrow definition of trans identity leave many youth feeling excluded and unseen. Despite their lack of recognition, these young people persevered and worked to expand notions of gender, as shown in the stories Slovin shares.
